Magazine Cover Roundup
Our thoughts on some of the most notable covers from March/April 2025
While there weren’t any covers that were headlining fashion news this month, it’s not to say that the ones we had to dig a little more for, weren't notable.
March is a come-down period for the fashion industry, following the excessive nature of award season and fashion month; there are not a lot of needs-and-wants for the watchers of the industry right now. And so, the magazines can allow themselves time to focus on their covers and do what they want to do, without the need to stand out during the busy start of the year.
Also overwhelming is the crumbling state of America, in more ways than one. And thus, you can spot a difference in the American covers this month versus the covers from Spain, the Netherlands, and Brazil. Stylists in the US are digging their heels and pulling wardrobe fresh off the Spring/Summer runways while creative directors seem to be battling whether or not they can afford an actual background for their covers. Meanwhile, Lila Moss and Vogue Espana are weekend-ing on the beaches of Spain.
All in all, magazine covers can tell us a lot more about our state in the world as long as you look closer (also helpful if you are a blonde and a gay pretending to be high-level creative executives in your 4-bedroom Toronto rental). Enjoy!
Numéro - Rejoice Chuol
Liam: Welllllll, I hadn’t even seen this cover until Gillian dropped it here, and now I’m obsessed! A major theme in this month’s covers has been a lack of creative direction and uninspired backgrounds (recession indicator??). While this one keeps it minimal, I still love what I’m seeing. She looks phenomenal and she is selling this whole look with the attitude in her gaze. Also, I think it’s worth noting that the jewellery is perfect — something that has also been lacking (recession indicator #2??)
Gillian: Perfect point about the jewelry, I feel like I haven’t seen as many big-ass diamonds as one can expect during award season and fashion week. Numéro is always so glam and chic. This is one of two covers they did this month, and the other one is so bland compared to this one. They have two completely different production teams, and I imagine the other team crying at their loss in the presentation meeting. So shout-out to photographer, Kenny Germé and his winning team.
i-D - Enza Khoury

from @enzakhoury on Instagram
Gillian: The concept for i-D’s three covers this month was “WHO IS SHE?” With the covers being FKA Twigs, Naomi Campbell, and this one, Enza Khoury, a high school student from Ohio. The premise was that they did an open casting call to find a “real American teen” and they found Enza, an 18-year-old aspiring actress. The cover itself had me really curious to look into the entire spread, which then, did not disappoint. Photographer, Aidan Zamiri, photographs her different locations of her Ohio-life, where she’s then styled by Clare Bryne in this really “fashionably organic way” where she’s decked out in everything from Alaia to Chanel and Enza looks totally natural. I enjoyed this so much, I don’t think they needed Naomi and Twigs and that says a lot.
Liam: I can’t put my finger on it, but something about this cover feels like a callback to the early 2000s with the cool-toned colour grading and excessive grain. I’m personally not a huge fan of it, but I love that they just put a random girl from Ohio on the cover.
Harper’s Bazaar Brasil - Lais Oliveira
Gillian: Lais Oliveira is a pretty elusive but major Brazilian model, specifically in her Victoria’s Secret Angel era. She doesn’t post a lot, but is just a true “model’s model” does that make sense? I just like this for her.
Liam: This is hands down my favourite cover of the month. This is the quintessential fashion magazine cover, everything from the posing to the styling—it’s just ultimate editorial. Lais is also just the perfect model for this shoot.
Gillian: Also, the shoot has something to do with cinema and the 60s, I have no further questions about this after learning that…it’s just nice styling, makeup, modelling, and shoot overall - solid, if you will!
Byrdie - Emma Chamberlain
Gillian: She’s wearing Claire Sullivan which is so beyond on-brand for who she tends to dress — Emma fits into her clientele of Gen-Z fashion stars like Clairo and Addison Rae. Claire Sullivan truly is a modern Carrie Bradshaw type of stylist and I truly don’t use that term lightly. Her youthful, unexpected, tutu-stapled-style is nothing if not full of expression and imperfection - and dare I say that fits into this Gen-Z, Emma Chamberlain, Carrie Bradshaw little fashion world this cover has created.
Liam: I totally agree with this fitting perfectly into this new era Gen-Z fashion (for which I think Addison Rae deserves a lot more credit than she receives—something I never thought I’d say). My only issue is again with the background! It feels like this could’ve been such a visually interesting cover—a great look wasted on a boring dark background. I do enjoy this shoot though!
Harper’s Bazaar - Artwork by Lorna Simpson
Liam: This cover showcases Lorna Simpson’s latest series “Personas in Silver,” where she blends a grey and silver palette with headshots from 1960s and 1970s advertisements in Ebony and Jet magazines. For a while, Simpson has been drawn to the drama and historical weight of photography from that period, recognizing the role these magazines played in shaping cultural narratives.
Gillian: It’s rare that a magazine gives a platform to modern artists in a way that simply showcases their work instead of pulling inspiration from them to create their own cover. Lorna Simpson is the perfect artist for this blends well with the vision that Editor-in-Chief, Samira Nasr brings to Harper’s Bazaar.
Vogue España - Lila Moss
Gillian: This is kind of a meaningless cover where I think the team just wanted to go to Tenerife. In the article, Lila says it’s an authentic cover because she wears clothes that she would “actually wear.” And hey, I would also like to authentically wear this Prada SS25 fit, or whatever that means! I put this in for the fit.
Liam: They absolutely just wanted to visit Tenerife! All of the money Vogue could be spending on interesting creative direction is instead going to weekend getaways, just saying. But I am loving this belt-carabiner situation.
